Evan Nossoff (Director) serves as producing artistic director of SacActors.Com. In the 1980s, the Sacramento Bee noted that Nossoff produced "superior quality theater." He has directed the two longest running nonmusicals in Sacramento theater history. Most recently he produced the 2004-2007 hit The Vagina Monologues. It is the longest run of any independently produced version of the show. It is also the longest running nonmusical in Sacramento theater history and moved to San Francisco for a seven week run at The Next Stage Theater. He produced and directed the Sacramento 2Page Play Festival . His revival of Sexual Perversity in Chicago again won rave critical reviews and ran 21 weeks. He directed the well received world premiere of the David Pierini (B Street Theater staff) script A Couch Story (July,1998) for the Actor’s Workshop and the equally acclaimed Our Town (January, 1999) and Mass Appeal (February, 2000) at the Woodland Opera House. He is a founding member of the League of Sacramento Theaters. He played the lead in the 1983 Sacramento premiere of Talley’s Folly (April, 1983) which was named the theater highlight of the year among by the Bee. He produced/directed the Northern California premiere of Going to See the Elephant (January, 1984) which won the Elly for outstanding drama in competition with professional theaters. He appeared in a featured role in the four star production of Chicago Conspiracy Trial at River stage. He conducts acting workshops and experiments with improvisational theater, with a focus on long form improvisation that he has pursued since 1976. His improvisational group Capitol Trust Company (1978) earned rave reviews for its long form improvisation, humor and the integrity of the work. Another group, Among Friends (June, 1985), was well reviewed. He wrote and directed the review The Truth Shall Make You Dangerous in summer 2000 and currently directs the group Dangerous Men, Dangerous Women. His training began with improvisational workshops in Los Angeles with Del Close, a legend within the theater community and the original acting coach for Saturday Night Live. He has also trained with other Second City and Committee talents including Dick Schaal, Morgan Upton and Jim Cranna. Transplanted to Sacramento in 1973, in 1978 Nossoff developed an improvisational group, Capitol Trust Company, that played several venues, including a special San Francisco performance for members of the famed San Francisco group The Committee. As RSVP the group performed for 15 years in the Sacramento area. He transitioned to scripted theater in the late 70s and early 80s, training with Eric Morris, author of the naturalistic acting text "No Acting Please" and Ron Sossi, the highly regarded Los Angeles artistic director of the Odyssey Theater Ensemble. In one 20 year period in the highly competitive LA market, Sossi was named outstanding director 19 times by DramaLogue (now Backstage West) theater magazine. Nossoff has lead over 1500 comedy, improvisation and acting workshops since he began teaching in 1978. While most have been actor oriented, he has also taught at juvenile facilities, group homes, halfway houses, professional organizations and at conferences. His teaching methods use the principles and exercises developed by Viola Spolin. He has adapted many method and physical theater exercises into the Spolin format. Spolin emphasizes creating a supportive environment, using a few simple principles (as opposed to rules) to lead the actor into an experience that teaches the material far more effectively than didactic approaches. Many SacActors.Com students have gone on to professional careers, including the current head of the Sacramento chapter of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists; a regional theater/actor, director and teacher; and a Los Angeles casting assistant. Others have won Elly’s, played lead roles and enjoyed using the knowledge gained from the workshop. One teen won a coveted slot as a B Street Theater intern (six are chosen after a national search) and was promoted to the Fantasy Theater Ensemble. Under the SacActors.Com name
